It is the dream of every engineering aspirant to be a part of IITs and NITs in India. Let us face the truth that the competition is so stiff that only a few get admissions into those esteemed colleges. The fact is that NITs and IITs are not the only engineering and technology colleges that can build your future. It is the Ministry of Human Resource Development that has bestowed the responsibility of ranking the colleges in India on certain parameters to National Institutional Ranking Framework also known as NIRF. The parameters on the basis of which the rankings have been done by NIRF are as follows.
- The pedagogy of teaching employed together with learning as well as Resources available
- Research as well as Professional Practices prevalent
- The Outcome or the result of Graduation
- Outreach as well as Inclusivity
- Perception among the crowd
If you have not been able to make into the top IITs and NITs, don’t panic! There is a world of opportunity waiting for you. These colleges ranked in top 10 by NIRF are no less than IITs and NITs. What are the main points that a student considers before applying into any other college? The five parameters have been brought together to rank the top 10 engineering colleges excluding NITs and IITs.

Let us look at the ranking on the basis of competence of faculty, research and innovations, placements and infrastructural facilities
You will see that the ranking has been based on the most common grounds that are usually considered by students and parents in choosing the top colleges. There are almost 7 parameters included but we will consider the most commonly considered ones viz. Faculty Competence, Research and Innovations, Placement and Infrastructural Facilities. The list will differ here from what we have got from NIRF.

Now that you have the ranking of both as per both the parameters, it is your choice which one to go for. NIRF is a body that is trusted in terms of its decision and rigorous research. The fee structure, hostel facilities, and the admission fee differ from one college to another. It is always advisable to visit the websites of each of the colleges after you have shortlisted your favorite ones.
The website of each of the colleges will give you an understanding of what the college is offering and what will be in sync with your choice of branch. You will also have to check if you have your preferred branch in those colleges or not.
If you are equally inclined towards the college and branch, you might have to face the question, “Branch or College?” It will be your discretion really. A good college and a good branch is a lethal combination. If it is not this, then you may have to choose either of the two.
Good luck with your entrances and hope you get into your favorite colleges!
